In partnership with the US Forest Service, MobilizeGreen seeks a Community Engagement Intern to work with the Urban Connections program in the Boston, MA office of the US Forest Service. This position will work with the Forest Service Urban Outreach Specialist in the Boston Metro area to implement the Urban Connections Program. The Intern will implement education and conservation programming; provide work direction for youth conservation corps members; and assist in coordinating the Boston 21CSC Coalition. The Intern also will assist the Urban Connections City Coordinator with assignments; special events and projects that increase engagement of urban residents in the understanding and awareness of natural resources and environmental issues in their communities; and enhance the work of U.S. Forest Service partners to encourage urban residents to participate in outdoor recreation activities and the care and improvement of local and natural environments; and highlight the role of the U.S. Forest Service in the conservation of public lands and in a multitude of career choices. This internship is ideal for someone seeking a potential career with a natural resources management agency such as the Forest Service; has a related conservation education degree or  experience; and who is interested in community engagement.  Diverse applicants encouraged to apply.


  • 24 weeks March to August
  • Hours will include weekends and occasional evenings.


  • $500/week living allowance
  • Monthly housing stipend
  • 2-year non-competitive hiring certificate for permanent jobs with the Forest Service (must complete at least 960 hours to be eligible)
  • Hands on training and experience

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and implement outreach and engagement efforts to urban communities;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of partnership agreements and collaborations;
  • Develop social media outreach messages to share information about the Forest Service;
  • Assist in coordinating and directing the work of 21CSC enrollees performing conservation in urban parks;
  • Provide training and counsel to 21CSC enrollees;
  • Travel required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: 

The work environment presents normal, every-day risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, field, and travel situations. There will be exposure to the temperate climates encountered in these cities year-round. Local travel in the metropolitan areas will be frequent. At least one trip to a national forest will be included. The work requires that the RA be flexible and adapt to a variety of work settings, both indoors and outdoors. There will physical exertion such as walking and hiking with groups on uneven and even terrain. There will be lifting and moving boxes and equipment up to 25 pounds. At special events, the RA may be standing for long periods.
