In partnership with the US Forest Service, MobilizeGreen seeks a Program Development, Budget, and Special Uses Resource Assistant Intern to serve at the Vallejo, CA office of the Forest Service. The intern will be trained to perform all aspects of administering Region 5 Program Development, Budget and Special Use Programs. The Forest Service provides services that support our national policy and federal land laws. Each year, the Forest Service receives thousands of individual and business applications for authorization for use of National Forest System land for such activities as water transmission, agriculture, outfitting and guiding, recreation, telecommunication, research, policy, regulations, and granting road and utility rights-of-ways. The Intern will administratively support the processes behind the applications, regulations, personnel, customers, etc. The intern will also learn how requests affect the public's use and natural resources of National Forest System land. The intern will assist with monitoring financial databases and perform budget analysis of financial activities to include out-year strategic planning under the direction of the Program Development and Budget Program Manager.

Term: Monday-Friday, full-time (40 hours/week) for 18 months, starting January 2018

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Access financial systems to create reports (spreadsheets), as needed by Budget Program manager or to assist Program Managers and National Forests
  • Monitor financial databases and perform budget analysis of financial activities to include out-year strategic planning
  • Assist the Program Development Manager to manage and re-allocate resources in the Plan of Work Work Plan under supervision of the Program Development Manager
  • Data entry for Special Use Database
  • Process centralized billing, proposals, and applications for maintenance and record keeping  
  • Provide administrative support to Special Use and Budget Program Managers
  • Develop knowledge on Forest Service regulations and policies, like National Environmental Policy Act, etc.
  • Review, inspect, and analyze permit process related to natural resource management
  • Provide excellent customer service to private land owners and businesses
  • Provide strong oral and written communication to Region 5 forests/units, other federal and state agencies, and private corporations

Qualifications:

  • Education or experience with business, accounting, recreation, political/economic science or equivalent (Degree not needed with experience, but BA degree preferred)
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Customer Service experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Comfortable traveling 1-2 weeks per month.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The work environment presents normal, every-day risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, field, and travel situations. Local travel in the metropolitan areas and locations outside the office may be required on a limited basis. The work requires the RA be flexible and be able to adapt to a variety of work settings, both indoors and outdoors. There may be lifting and moving boxes and equipment up to 25 pounds. At special events such as recruitment/outreach/hiring events, the RA may be standing and engaged in active discussions for long periods.
