In partnership with the US Forest Service, MobilizeGreen is seeking 3 Youth Conservation Corps Crew Leaders for a non-residential YCC program based on the Eldorado National Forest. As part of this position, you will lead a group of 6 YCC crew members, ages 15-18, along with an Assistant YCC Crew Leader to complete a number of assigned projects, including trail and facilities maintenance, over the course of 8 weeks. The selected candidate will report to the Conservation Education Program Specialist for the Eldorado National Forest based in Placerville, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for local college students interested in environmental stewardship, green careers, or natural and cultural resourcesDiverse students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Term: 10 weeks, starting May 28, 2019. 40 hrs/week, primarily Monday-Friday with some required weekend work (including summer holiday weekends). Work-day hours are generally 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, but may occasionally require longer/later days.


  • $600 weekly living stipend
  • Hands on learning and job training experience

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leading a crew of 7 consisting of 1 YCC Assistant Crew Leader and 6 YCC crew members; 
  • Work on a variety of restoration projects including wilderness trail, campsite restoration, fuels reduction, invasive plant and aquatic species removal, recreation site maintenance, archaeological surveys, leadership, and job readiness skills; 
  • Contributing as a team member on all assigned projects;
  • Properly and effectively complete assigned projects;
  • Responsible for civil treatment of team members and safety of oneself and others;
  • Responsible to on-site projects leaders and lining out the crew on work assignments;
  • Responsible for understanding how to motivate individual personalities and how to work with underserved youth;
  • Must perform as a role model and be able to communicate orally and in writing.

Required Skills:

  • Leadership and supervision skills 
  • Applicants must be able to perform arduous work, in various terrain and weather conditions, including rainy, hot, humid, etc. for full days. 
  • Applicants must possess a positive attitude and the ability to interact with the public while performing work in recreation areas and on trails. 
  • Competent with supervision of hand tool use and trail maintenance projects

  • Current college student or recent graduate
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Valid driver's license
